The Kansas City Frontrunners and Walkers is a group dedicated to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender community and friends. Our mission is to promote good health through running, walking, and club events in a supportive running and walking community. Some members participate to get in a good jog a couple of times a week – while others show up to train for a competitive event. Most of us are really here because we love the social aspect of the group! Whether you’re a walker, running novice, or a seasoned marathoner, we welcome people of all abilities and interests. We are a member of the International Front Runners, a worldwide network of gay and lesbian running and walking clubs. The name “Frontrunners” was inspired by Patricia Nell Warren’s novel The Front Runner, a story about the relationship between an ex-Marine track coach and his Olympic athlete training for the 1976 Olympic Games.
