Club Bio

The Lake Ridge RidgeRunners Club was established in the late 1970s as one of Lake Ridge Parks and Recreation Association’s community clubs. No historical records of those early years remain, perhaps because the club was primarily a social outlet for area residents who enjoyed running together. Sometime in the 1980s, members organized two annual races: the Turkey Trot 10K and the May Day 5K. These races attracted new members and the club grew gradually. During the next decade, the RidgeRunners became serious long-distance runners, training for races ranging from 5K to Marathon (26.2M/42K). No longer satisfied by the accomplishment of many marathons, several club members formed a subgroup of ultrarunners, aptly named “Team Lunatic.” After a brief hiatus in recent years, followed by the unfortunate shutdown of the RidgeRunners’ award-winning website, the club reformed in July 2011 with the specific goal to embrace runners of all ages and fitness levels. An average of 18 adults and teenagers (composed of seasoned and beginning runners) and nine children on bicycles and scooters joined the Tuesday and Thursday evening group runs during that month. The club’s membership email list has now reached over 100 subscribers. Today, using social networks such as Facebook and Twitter to communicate efficiently with its members, the club’s appeal is rising steadily. Whether you’ve run 20 marathons or a quarter-mile in your life, you’ll find a place among our runners. Remember that anyone can run by taking one step at a time… So, what are you waiting for?
